Chapter 475: Ridiculous
The three techniques all had their strengths and weaknesses, so much so that it was hard to choose between them.
The obvious choice seemed to be the highest-rated skill, but there were too many variables in play.
On the one hand, thanks to Extricate, Rune Soul, and his Dual Class Constitution, Sylas had more understanding of his body than practically anyone on Earth right now. And he believed that included the Sylphs.
This meant that he was uniquely suited to grasping a Gene Skill in general, let alone a Gene Skill that was so compatible with him.
But, on the other hand, the power of <Cyrobane Elevation> was not his Stat Limit-which it could elevate-but rather his Gene Limit.
He could easily imagine a future where <Cyrobane Elevation> wanted to improve his Stat Limit, but couldn't because he either didn't have the Genes for it or he had already reached his Gene Limit.
It had to be remembered that Classes could increase Stat Limits, but not Gene Limits.
This meant that if his Stat Limit overran his Gene Limits, he would not only lose his State of Wealth, but he would also lose the effectiveness of as well.
If he was already at his Gene Limit, there would be no Stat Limit to push.
Regardless of his advantages, this Gene Skill would be extremely difficult to make use of. If by the time he finally mastered it to Legendary it became useless... well, it would be a great shame.
This seemed to be the real reason this was only considered to be an F- Gene Skill.
The problems with <Chilled Rise> and <Surfing Frost> were more obvious. The consumption of Aether was astronomical for both of them, and if Sylas used them how he wanted to, it would become more so.
Ironically, despite being the highest-level skill of them all, <Cryobane Elevation> probably had the lowest Aether requirements.
And when you got into the details, it became even worse.
[Surfing Frost (FFF+) (Skill)]
[The world is your frosted oyster; land, the seas, and even the sky are your board. Glide across them all and grasp the universe in your palms.]
[At the cost of 1 Unit of Aether per minute, attaching Surfing Frost to your feet to glide across the land.]
[At the cost of <5> Units of Aether per minute, attaching Surfing Frost to your feet to glide across the sea.]
[At the cost of <20> Units of Aether per minute, attaching Surfing Frost to your feet to glide across the skies.]
[Note: Pace of Surfing Frost production is limited to Average of Intelligence and Speed. To move faster, more Units of Aether must be used.]
[Cost: 120,000 (F) Coins]
[Chilled Rise (FFF+) (Skill)]
[The air is yours to rise above. Welcome the Chilling Rise of a true glider.]
[<1> Unit of Aether per minute to lower body weight.]
[<5> Units of Aether to increase jump height.]
[<20> Units of Aether to perform a Double Jump.]
[<50> Units of Aether to glide for <1> second.]
[Cost: 135,000 (F) Coins]
The cost was obviously excessive. But the note on <Surfing Frost> was incredibly troubling. He had 520 Speed, but only 427 Intelligence. That meant that using this skill would actually make him slower.
The rate-limiting step of <Surfing Frost> was obviously the creation of the Frost itself, and that took time. If he wasn't creating the roads fast enough, there would be nothing to "surf."
[Cryobane Elevation (F-) (Gene Skill)]
[Your body is a den of Ice and Poison, so make use of it. Supercharge your Speed and Dexterity fibers, and chill them to within maintainable levels.]n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
[<5> Units of Aether a minute per use in exchange for a <50% > increase to Speed and Dexterity Stat Limit.]
[Cost: 950,000 (F) Coins]
Sylas' gaze flickered. In the end, it seemed that <Cryobane Elevation> would just have to be the one he went with.
'The lack of flexibility with <Cryobane Elevation> is a true problem. If only I could fuse them...'
After some thought, Sylas chose to exchange for all three skills. If his mastery increased enough, the cost would go down. In addition, his Rune Soul would be of great help.
With Rune Soul, he should be able to accelerate the creation of Frost and control the gliding of <Chilled Rise> even better.
Ultimately, he could only be certain if he actually tried first, and honestly speaking, since the cost of was so high, it made the price of the first two easier to swallow.
Even if it ended up being a waste of money in the end, it was worth it.
He planned on taking a day after this to really drill with these skills in a way he never had before because he never had the time. He would know soon whether he made the right
decision or not.
'Oh?'
Sylas was about to go and see what kind of armors he could buy for the Arctic Emperor Cobra to elevate its battle prowess again, or maybe see if he could find a way to get it to Quasi Bronze, but he paused soon after.
He had entered a section for beasts, so there were obviously beast-related items all around him. What he hadn't considered before, though maybe he should have, was the possibility of buying a beast.
There were beast eggs present for sale, and even some live beasts, something that he hadn't seen in the Bronze Nexus and clearly represented an upgrade of some sort.
'Maybe I can find something here...'
If there was someone on the planet that cared the least about the time he would have to wait for a beast to hatch and grow, it was Sylas.
Wasn't that exactly what the Hibernation Realm was for?
If he could find even a Bronze Beast here, it would be a huge profit. He had been able to make
the Arctic Emperor Cobra so strong, and it was a mere Common Beast.
Of course, he had also had an advantage. After all, the Arctic Emperor Cobra followed his Path
of the Mancer. So it was much easier to upgrade it.
But who said he couldn't find another Ice-Poison beast here?
However, when Sylas started seriously looking, eliminating all but the Serpentes, he couldn't
help but frown.
These prices... weren't they too ridiculous?
Chapter 476: Spinalcoil [Bonus]
[Brown Snake (?)]
[Cost: 1,200,050 (F) Coins]
Sylas looked at this price for a long time, even wondering if he had seen wrongly. But every time he looked, it was the same.
The question mark didn't mean that this snake was some sort of powerhouse, which was likely why there was just one question mark this time instead of three, like he was used to seeing in such a situation.
Instead, it was because the egg had yet to be properly appraised, and this "shop" had a bit of a gacha situation going on.
As for the name "brown snake," that was just a casual label meant to be a clue as to its origin. After all, there was some low-level appraising going on just for the sake of categorizing the eggs into their proper categories.
If it was just that, it would be fine. But Sylas had the eyes of a Vipermancer. He knew that this egg was completely worthless, and yet it was set at 1.2 million Coins.
Brown Snake might as well be its actual name.
It had, expectedly, brown scales and would only grow to about three feet in length.
Other than that, it would be pretty decent at spitting in your face for a distraction.
If you expected anything else, well.
it was best you not expect anything in the first place, honestly.
The main issue wasn't that this snake was so weak; it was that they were all weak. No matter where he looked, Sylas found worthless eggs being put up for upwards of five million.
It was a shameless money grab that existed for just one reason, apparently... the hope of something great.
These eggs, once they hatched, would expectedly become attached.
If you played it safe and got a contract Template, you could gain a combat pet.
Though this would be inferior to a Combat Mount that could scale with your stats and would naturally understand your commands and orders, for people who just wanted an extra bit of safety and protection in this world, such pets could be worth a lot.
The brown snake was truly pathetic, but there were some eggs here that had the potential to become FF and FF+ threats if raised correctly.
But Sylas had no intention of wasting a slot on a Common Beast.
It seemed like it was a dead end here.
'Hm?'
Sylas left the region but then found something else interesting.
'City Protectors...'
This was a category of beasts that Sylas had never seen before.
They seemed tied to the fate of a city and had ridiculous Constitution as a result.
They were a lot like the formation Cassarae bought back then to protect the city from the sudden attack.
But they were even more expensive. Even the weakest was five million, and the strongest present here were easily ten times that. There was even one that was over nine figures.
Sylas wasn't anywhere near able to afford such a thing right now. And even if he could, it wouldn't help him very much. After all, it wasn't like he was a walking city.
A City Protector needed a City Stele to be bound to in order for it to work properly.
'I'll keep this in mind.'
Sylas was about to leave entirely when he paused again. This time, it wasn't because he had seen something new or interesting. Instead, he wondered...
Should he have filtered by Serpentes?
His experience with Nosphaleen had taught him that not every Serpentes was an obvious one on the surface.
Considering how poor the identification and appraisal methods used on these eggs were, who was to say that some didn't slip through the cracks?
With his Vipermancy Profession, so long as there was something to be found, he would surely sense it.
Sylas went back and opened up the category filters. As expected, there were hundreds of times more beast eggs to analyze like this.
He scanned through them one by one with great speed.
He trusted his Profession and his instincts.
There was no need to waste time going through every description.
He just popped the egg up, sensed for a split moment, and if there was nothing, he continued.
This went on for several minutes, and Sylas had already been through over a thousand by
now.
Most of the time, he felt absolutely nothing. Although he had what was technically a Beast Master Profession, he had no understanding of beasts outside of Serpentes.
But then it happened.
[Bone-tailed Lizard (?)]
[Cost: 2,250,000 (F) Coins]
Sylas hesitated.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
This was the first time he had actually sensed something from an egg here, but it felt so vague and fleeting... even more vague than what he had felt from Nosphaleen.
'Well, that might not be true.
I didn't sense anything from Nosphaleen at all until she started using her Beast Totem Comprehension.
But here, I can sense something even though the beast has yet to be born.
It should be slightly easier.
Interesting.
'.
The beast here wasn't a Serpentes, at least not in the normal sense. Instead, it seemed to have undergone an odd mutation that made a series of Genes within it mimic another Serpentes
quite closely.
This Serpentes was known as the Spinalcoil Serpent.
It was Bronze Beast that was quite unique in the Serpentes line because it had the ability to control its bones to attack. Under the right conditions, it could even affect the bones of an
opponent.
The details were a bit fuzzy to Sylas because the Spinalcoil Serpent Genes in this lizard were so faint.
However, he believed that this snake had a very special poison that could quickly target and erode bones.
Once the poison set in during combat, it was even possible for the serpent to directly control the body of an opponent.
Or, rather, their bones.
Then, the serpent could either directly kill the target or even turn them into a lance against others, manipulating them into projectiles or any other form they could think of.
