Genetic Ascension - Chapter 453 - 454

Chapter 453: Superior [Bonus]

Sylas sat in silence, staring off into the distance. On the one hand, his mind was churning. And on the other, he was taking the opportunity to replenish his stamina.

From time to time, he would pop a nutritional pill into his mouth and energy would flood through him. He was taking his body recovery even more seriously now despite having the Dual Class Constitution.

The only unfortunate part was that he still didn't have the time to dial in his sleep the way he would like to. He still wanted to observe Nosphaleen for longer before he trusted her enough to do that.

However, there was no doubt that this Legendary Quest reward was a shocking one. He never failed to be surprised by his new body even days later. It seemed to have a new surprise for him every day.

'The Multi Quest introduction mentioned that the demon villages are involved in all of this as well. I should take the opportunity to destroy a few of them and gather Experience. The higher Taboo Bond is, the better...'

Assuming he would need to get Taboo Bond to Level 50 just like his own personal Level to max out its state in the F-Grade, he couldn't even fathom the amount of Experience he would need.

The cost was already 20,000, and he already knew that it wouldn't increase linearly.

'If the Ravenclaws don't make a move, I'll do that.'

Sylas slowly stood, beginning to stretch his body, something else that had become a daily routine.

It was also about time he start questioning Nosphaleen about some important matters. "What do you know about what happened to your Clypsian Race?"

Nosphaleen blinked, not having expected such a question so suddenly. She knew that Sylas would eventually ask, but he had such an odd cadence with how he did things that kept people on their toes.

The more she observed him, the more she felt that he might be the most dangerous person she had ever met.

"I only know what my elders have told me. We were the overlords of the Second Summoning, but we ended up losing for reasons even we don't fully understand. A lot of us think it's

because of the Dogons, though."

"And why's that?"

"The Dogons were the overlords of the Third Summoning.

But logically speaking, we should have been given another chance.

They seemed to come out of nowhere as though someone accelerated their evolution.

Although we knew that they were on pace to potentially become an overlord Race in the future, they were lagging far behind us originally.

".

"And the humans?"

"The evolution of the Human Race seemed far more natural. It wasn't until the Sixth Summoning that you all appeared in your current state, though you had been around in some form since the First Summoning."

Sylas raised an eyebrow when he heard this.

There were only two ways to interpret Nosphaleen's words. Either she was lying, or she subconsciously looked down on humans more than Sylas thought.

According to Sylas' understanding of the timeline, the first few Extinctions were hundreds of millions of years ago. Even the dinosaurs only died during the Fifth Extinction, or in other words, the so-called "Fifth Summoning."

He wouldn't be surprised if these timelines were off or the whole Extinction to Summoning correlation was all a faked facade.

But the timeline scale difference shouldn't be too exaggerated.

There was simply no way there were "humans" around so far back then when there were barely any primates during the dinosaur period.

These Clypsians really saw the Human Race no differently than they saw monkeys. In fact, it might be even worse than just that.

Not only was Sylas not offended by this, he even felt that he understood their perspective.

The closest genetic relative to humans were what? Chimpanzees? And there was a barely 1% difference between their DNA.

But how much smarter than chimps were humans?.

Now, what was the difference between Clypsians and Humans? Sylas doubted that it was just blue skin and a few reflective scales.

"Anyway... during the Third Summoning and the Fourth, we spent more time fighting amongst one another for supremacy than we did trying to find a path to survival. We realized too late that we were being interfered with by outside forces."

Sylas' gaze flashed. "You fought? How did you fight when you lost your status as an overlord Race?"

Logically speaking, the moment the Dogons replaced the Clypsians, the former should have had an insurmountable advantage.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"We are the superior intelligence." Nosphaleen replied as though it was just a matter of fact. Sylas continued to look at her and she realized quickly that this explanation wasn't enough for him.

"Not everyone dies after a Summoning failure unless something goes terribly wrong.

We had many powerful experts remaining though they had rules they had to follow.

Plus, with their experience, although it's difficult to progress without the favor of the system, it isn't impossible.

".

"I see."

Sylas nodded, looking off into the distance.

This pretty much confirmed something...

There just might be Clypsians and Dogons still hiding in the shadows somewhere ready to make their move.

In fact, who knew if there weren't any other Races waiting in the wings? He couldn't help but notice that he had yet to run into a single dinosaur, the most famous of the Extinct creatures.

Sylas could only hope that they had learned their lesson from their previous failures.

'Maybe they have, but humans have no idea that this is the final chance we have.

Now that I know all of this, I have a feeling whoever manipulated the facts did so on purpose so that they could trigger infighting again.

Without believing that our backs are truly against the wall, who would take working together seriously?'.

Sylas exhaled a slow breath, the light in his eyes burning bright.

"They're making a move."

Sylas felt his Luck stir somewhat. Someone was targeting him.

The once subtle feelings felt far sharper now.

Chapter 454: Drawbacks

At that moment, three demon village armies were making their way toward Lucius' city. A pig demon village, a wolfman village, and a gnoll village.

They seemed to be moving independently, approaching from different directions. But there was no doubt about what their destination was.

...

Sylas had only just stood up when he received a message. It was only the second time he had received such a message, and it was from none other than Lucius.

'Return, huh? It seems that I was right.'

The counterattack had started.

Sylas thought for a moment before he took a peek.

[Leg 005]

[Your city has been targeted by an underlying dark current. Face off against the assault of Pig Demon Village 122, Gnoll Village 297, and Wolfman Village 011. Survive for three days]

'Interesting...'

Sylas thought about it for a moment. However, if Lucius couldn't deal with this, he would truly be too incompetent.

"Let's go. We're heading to the System City."

**

Orciuius City.

If it wasn't broken, Sylas had no intention of fixing it. The only question was how his previous noble title would affect things here.

And the answer was none at all.

Noble status was based on two factors: System City and Territory. Within the same Territory, his Barony Title might hold a small bit of weight. But outside of that Territory, it plummeted until it was worth nothing at all.

In this city, he might as well be a homeless man by the side of the road.

He entered the city smoothly and bought a territory, directly becoming a Citizen. Unfortunately, he didn't get promoted to Baron immediately like he wanted, but that much was fine. He had already expected this.

What he didn't expect was to gain something else entirely.

[Your Merit has been acknowledged by Orciulius City.]

[Your status has been elevated]

[You have been directly conferred the Title of Earl]

[You have been awarded 100,000 Hero Points]

Sylas' gaze flickered.

He remembered when he first entered Guiz City, he had been practically ushered in as a "Hero." In fact, that was the exact word the guard at the gate used to acknowledge him.

He also noticed that the home he bought was even cheaper than before. He had gotten a 50% discount the first time in Guiz City, but this time it was 90% off. The cost was barely 5000 coins for a dingy place that should have cost at least 50,000.

This experience made him realize just how much he was truly underestimating the weight of his Merits. It made all of this comically easy.

Just to get a Viscount Title back in Guiz City, it would cost 1,000 Hero Points. To make it to Earl, it would likely cost a hundred times that with ease.

But he had gotten the Title for free and 100,000 Hero Points on top of that to spend as he pleased.

[Title Unlocked]

[Title: Earl of Orciulius]

[You now have a stake in the territory of Orciulius City, and your power should reflect that] [+40% to ALL stats while within 50 kilometers of Orciulius City]

This time, when he walked into the military encampment near the core of the city, he didn't receive the same disdain.

It was like his Merits were too overwhelming to ignore any longer.

'I can gain a Colonel position in exchange for just 10,000 Hero Points.

'.

Sylas hadn't expected the sudden influx of Hero Points, and he wondered if he should change his plans. But in the end, he shook his head. He would stick with his original plan.

First, he accepted a Captain Title, found the military missions list, scanned through them, picked one, then directly left.

The sudden appearance of an unknown Earl didn't escape Rolland's attention. But by then, Sylas was gone.

**

Lucius stared off into the distance with a solemn expression. He had sent a message to Sylas for him to return, but he wasn't banking on it. He would be a fool to trust his life to such a

variable.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

However, as the enemies approached from the distance, he couldn't help but feel a hint of darkness in his heart. Sylas truly didn't take him very seriously at all.

The Multi Quest wasn't unfair. There were a good few hours before the armies appeared along their first line of scouting. But Sylas was still nowhere to be seen.

The only reason Lucius hadn't lost his temper completely was because he knew that Sylas had actually done quite a lot in this period.

Leg 004 changed before it was even completed, changing from stopping the Ravenclaws from gaining an advantage, to destroying their checkpoints. There was only one person who could

be responsible for such a thing.

Sylas.

Lucius took a breath. They didn't need to defeat the army; they just needed to last for three days. That would be enough.

This should be the way of the system finding balance. Otherwise, they might truly be out of

luck.

These weren't normal demon villages. They were all powerful, having Level 30s at their helms. They couldn't be underestimated in the slightest.

Lucius' protection plan was already finished. If Sylas came, good. If not, that was fine as well.

He was prepared.

But that was when something astonishing happened.

Just as the Grimblades were prepared for battle, the pig demons froze and their City Lord let

out a howl.

The pig demons seemed furious about something, and their power seemed to plummet for an inexplicable reason.

The battle began, but then the scene repeated itself. The wolfmen were the next to take a hit.

And then, hours after that, it was the turn of the gnolls.

Distracted and seemingly weakened, the demons weren't just repelled by Lucius; they were

crushed.

Lucius didn't understand what was happening at first, but then the reality sunk in.

Their villages... they had to have been destroyed.

Demons were special. They were spawned from thin air, and they were the only example of

City Lords that could freely leave their cities before reaching a certain village Grade.

But... that came with its own drawbacks.
