Chapter 457: Planar Convergence Gate
[Planar Convergence Gate (Silver) (Template)]
[Exchange 100 Units of Aether or 10 Aether Stones to open a Portal between your world and its Aether Plane. Location will be a one-to-one translation of space and time. Gate will last 10 days upon opening.]
[Uses Left: 3/3]
She didn't know what Sylas was thinking, wanting to deploy something like this here.
Plus, from her understanding, it wasn't so simple to circumvent the protections of a System City.
The military wasn't the only thing protecting it.
There were large numbers of formations and nets of Runes that could suppress the activation of such a thing.
Though this Planar Convergence Gate was powerful, it was more likely than not that it would be detected, suppressed, and then ultimately fail.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
That was especially so considering the fact that they were doing this in the heart of the most protected region.
Still, she had no choice but to follow Sylas' orders at this point.
She pulled out ten Aether Stones, working quickly. There would definitely be a great fallout upon failure. There was a reason that Sylas was making her do this rather than doing it himself.
The Planar Convergence Gate didn't seem like a gate at all. Instead, it looked a lot like the Beast Transmutation Skin, just a large parchment of leather etched with ancient, complex carvings.
She placed the Aether Stones in their proper locations and that was when it changed.
The Aether raced through the etchings like cars surging through a complex terrain and then converged at the center.
The illusion of a starry gate took shape and that was when the commotion began.
Rolland sensed it at the first instant, and that was the moment he stood from his chair, his head snapping toward their direction.
However, by this point, the process couldn't be stopped. Space quaked and it seemed like it was about to tear in two.
But that was when the Runes that protected the System City activated. Alarms blared and a domain of starry Aether covered the city in a Dome that blocked out the night sky and made it so bright one might almost mistake it for day.
Nosphaleen's heart skipped a beat. The reaction was even fiercer than she thought. She looked off toward where she thought Sylas was hiding, but he wasn't making a move. Was he really going to sacrifice her like this?
She had seen Sylas' cruel nature, and in many ways, she understood it.
As well as Sylas had hidden it, she had already noticed that his control over her wasn't as absolute as it should have been between a master and beast.
Whatever he had done to take her out had already been reversed.
But it seemed that she hadn't been able to convince him to trust her in these days.
Nosphaleen sighed as the pattern of converging Aether shattered beneath the might of the System City.
[Uses Left: 2/3]
Nosphaleen stumbled backward, the spiraling rage of Aether knocking her off balance. "Again."
The voice came before she could even stabilize herself properly. When she heard them, she understood why Sylas had handed her 20 Aether Stones and not 10. He had always planned to do this twice.
But she didn't understand what he would gain out of it.
This time, though, Sylas came out of the shadows, striding over as the commotion took hold of the entire city. The dome above was already fading away, but he could feel as though the system's eyes were converging over here.
However, there was a clear lag in the system's actions...
Favoritism.
He knew what it was without much thought. And now that he was more confident in taking action, he urged Nosphaleen.
"Hurry up."
The cold glint in Sylas' eyes made her heart skip a beat. The Mesmeryx part of her was especially strangled, as though she was gazing toward her overlord.
She realized whether she was considered a beast of Sylas or not...
He was her bane.
Without a choice, Nosphaleen could only hurry to set it up again.
By this point, Sylas was only 20 or so meters away as the Planar Convergence Gate began to form up.
This time, the System City reacted even faster because its formations had yet to fade in the first place. However... there was another important thing to consider this time.
Sylas was here.
He had used the first opportunity to observe and see if there was something that he could do. Quite quickly, he realized that he would be able to take action this time.
As expected, the System City's level was dimmed and restrained so that it would be around the general level of Earth as a whole. This wasn't just in the level of its fighters, but also in the level of its formations.
Thanks to this, Rune Soul was more than enough for Sylas to get a general feel of what was happening. And... more than enough for him to protect the Planar Convergence Gate for just
long enough...
His telekinesis flared and Enchanted Scholar churned.
His Ice-Poison formed needles under the control of Winter's Edge and his Slow Runes pierced into the converging Runes of the System City.
PA. PA. PA.
Ice popped and crackled in the air.
Sylas' eyes glowed brighter and brighter as the formations of the System City were unceremoniously poisoned one after another. Blue, cancerous runes spread like veins formed into a net across the skies.
Nosphaleen hardly had the time to understand what was happening when her brows shot up.
'Success!'
BOOM!
The starry gate solidified, slamming into the marbled ground and entrenching itself.
A swirling portal appeared within it and a large amount of Aether converged.
"Retreat for now," Sylas said calmly.
He was still waiting for something and he believed that the other foot would drop quite
quickly.
And that it did.

Chapter 458: His Path
Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Sylas had only just finished speaking when he noticed a problem.
Nosphaleen was marked.
Still, he was quite calm when he noticed this despite the panic on Nosphaleen's face. He was ready.
He had been marked before, and he knew the kind of tricks that the system liked to play. This was the real reason he had had Nosphaleen act as opposed to just doing it himself.
Like this...
He could actually hide her.
The somewhat warped cancer Gene appeared again.
"Bear with it."
Sylas had already slammed the Gene into her chest before she could react.
A familiar pain overwhelmed her, and her body began to shut down once again. Soon, her Clypsian Genes had been suppressed once again.
With the upgrade to his Taboo Bond Path, it was even easier than it had been in the past for Sylas to accomplish this.
Adding onto that his familiarity with the process, it barely took a few seconds before Nosphaleen was tossed back into his Hibernation Realm.
He looked above his head and nodded.
He had been partially worried that the beacon would transfer to him, but at the very least he had confirmed that at least a Legendary Path ability could circumvent the system to some extent.
'Nosphaleen has had time to really drill the suggestion into Sunniva. But only time will tell if it will hold up these ten days. I'll have to watch my back in the meantime.'
Sylas began to retreat from the region just as the first beasts began to rush out of the portal.
Because the gate was much more controlled than the usual portal, it wasn't constantly expanding. However, that didn't mean it wasn't quite large.
The gate was at least 30 meters tall and ten meters thick. It was more than enough to unleash a great deal of absolute chaos.
And...
'I'm in luck...'
Sylas hadn't been paying much attention earlier, but he had felt a slight frigid wind coming from the other side. However, now he could confirm it.
The world on the other side was likewise a wintery land.
However, this shouldn't have been a surprise. He had mostly spoken those words perfunctorily.
It had to be remembered that the Planar Convergence Gate connected the Aether Plane to the proper Earth coordinates, or vice versa.
In addition, it had been implied through the description of the Multi Quest that the Africor Continent was not the proper landing location and that its climate and that of the Evergreen Territory's would certainly clash.
Using this as a foundation, it was simple for Sylas to deduce that when he connected the Evergreen Territory to Earth with the Planar Convergence Gate, he would certainly be connecting to a location of similar climate. And in this case...
He would have the advantage in Aether.
There was no doubt that the Path of the Mancer had a great deal of potential, but there were also drawbacks.
If he was in an environment that was too adversarial to his own, it would be far more difficult to cast Ice-Poison Skills, even with the support of Rune Soul.
But now...
He would be able to maintain his advantage.

Other side of Planar Convergence Gate.
The Celestial Republic.
"Report."
[Verday Song (FFF)]
[Level: 26]
"A portal has appeared on the Great Celestial Wall, sir."
Verday looked up from his documents, his eyes sharpening.
He had the air of a General to him. Though he was somewhat short in stature, standing at around 5'8", he had an aura of a man a foot taller than that. His reporting officer couldn't help but shrink beneath his gaze.
"What happened?" Verday asked slowly.
According to their analysis, there should be no such portal.
Although it was difficult to predict the appearance of portals into the future, within a few days, the "weather forecast," so to speak, should be quite accurate.
A random portal couldn't appear in such a highly monitored region without cause.
"We are still investigating.
But all signs point to this being done on purpose.
The portal is very stable and a gate has appeared.
This gate also seems to have a particularly strong luring effect on beasts.
The Aether is more stable, so it gathers more systematically.
The Great Celestial Wall is already being overrun.
".
The wall was long. It was impossible to defend every inch of it. Instead, it was mostly used to bolster defenses in certain areas. The location of this portal happened to be particularly inconvenient as a result.
Verday stood.
"Hand out my orders. Send a report back to headquarters and gather up the men."
They needed to move out now and be prepared for the other foot to drop. The odds that this was a plot against their government were low. But they had to be prepared for it nonetheless. And if it wasn't, this was likely an opportunity.
As expected, the words had barely come out when the Quicktime Event notification reached
him.
'A System City?'
His gaze flashed as he made several decisions at once.
...
Within General Song's encampment, a familiar man sat in silence.
[Morgan Hayes (FF-)]
[Level: 13]
"Professor, you're needed."
Morgan looked up. "Where's the brief?"
"There isn't one. Emergency situation."
Morgan stood when he heard this.
"Alright. Bring me where I need to go."

Orciulius City.
Sylas didn't go very far from the Planar Convergence Gate as the warriors of the System City began to converge. His focus had turned to the clear conditions of the Quicktime Event.
One of them, unsurprisingly, was finding and killing the culprit. That, obviously, being Nosphaleen. But he had already hidden her away, and the odds of that were minimal.
However, after this, the challenge changed.
[Clear Requirements]
>[The culprit of this incident has been hidden through mysterious means. Find the secrets hidden in the dark and kill both the culprit and their conspirators]
It was unsurprisingly a very difficult requirement to meet. If Sylas wasn't the one who had
done it, he wouldn't even know where to start.
Obviously, this wasn't a requirement he could meet. So his path was the others...
